El Grito

Miguel Hidalgo and Costilla, a priest of the parish in Dolores, gathered on the night of September 15th in Dolores to encourage and address the army that was put together, to revolt, which would take place on September 16th, 1810. It is known as el grito de Hidalgo and el grito de Dolores. It was a battle cry that commemorated the day that the people of Mexico fought for their independence and took a stand against the Spainards. Today, Mexican Indepence is celebrated on September 15th to resemble Hidalgo's cry for independence.
